I CIOFF South africa

Since 1998, South Africa works as Associate member of CIOFF. However the current South African network is made up of in 2003.

In fact, it was on the occasion of the CIOFF Regional Meeting for the Countries of Austral Africa, which took place on May 23-24, 2003 in Pretoria during the SADC Festival (Southern African Development Community) that the cultural agents of the national South African met together.

The meeting was organized together with the National African Department of Arts and Culture. He received, in addition to the participation of foreign governmental and non-governmental cultural agents, the representatives of the Departments of Arts and Culture from various South African provinces and cultural associations of the country.

With the passing years, its statut progressed: nowadays, it has right to vote and right to know. It is ordinary member, it takes an active part in cioff's activities: international event, publishing....Its president is Georges Olifant.

« In the field of intangible heritage, South Africa is drawing up political and legislative measures and preparing an inventory and studies of the range of its cultural expressions.
It is very attached to the principles of cultural diversity and has spared no effort in formulating policies in this respect within UNESCO.

The UNESCO/WTO cultural tourism project on the Slave Route includes the restoration of sites and the tracing of itineraries linked to the memory of the slave trade and of slavery in the country.

As regards cultural industries, South Africa has been selected for the launching of the Label of Excellence on the African continent. This programme is designed to encourage the development of quality crafts. » - UNESCO's sources

By the celebration of varied traditions from country's ethnic groups, way to celebrate the end of apartheid.
