I CIOFF Algeria

Algeria is represented within CIOFF as a corresponding member since 1996. During several years, CIOFF Algeria was chaired by Farid BOUKHALFA, Director of Activities for Young People to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Alger.
Recently, Cioff is waiting for a new representative.

II Algeria and UNESCO

“Algeria was the first State Party to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Moreover, the Algerian poetic and musical genre, the Ahellil of Gourara, was proclaimed a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2005.
To promote the Ahellil, the first edition of ahellil's festival was organized in january 2008.

Algeria takes part in the Ksour Route project . This project is designed to develop sustainable tourism in the Saharan countries.” - UNESCO's sources

III Cultural life and festivals

With adoption of many laws and the implementation of national measures, Algeria is in suitabilty with promotion and development politic of traditions wanted by UNESCO.

Furthermore, most of algerian traditionals festivals was created by the culture ministry or its support. Usually. This festivals have the objective to develop the algerian dance and music.

Development of populars lyrics and choreographic expressions
-Rai song Festival - Oran/August
-African Folk dance Festival - Tizi Ouzou
To put people in touch and give them exchange and dialogue space
-National cultural Festival - aissaoua / October
To keep the traditional repertoire and transmit it to the new generation.
-Arab song Festival - Alger / november
